Prowl: Easy Push Notifications App Reviews

This app is amazing. Im running a Python program on a Raspberry Pi at my home which uses the API to send me alerts, no matter where I am. I wish Id found this app sooner.

Not very often do you find an app that does what it says "easily". I think its better for a developer to assume the person using it has no or some knowledge of computers but, not assume that the person knows everything. In theory this is a great app but, on the surface its convaluted mess. 1. There should be a simple server you can download on your Mac/PC to get notifications sent to your iPhone and, not have to pay for a seperate app. 2. The whole API system is not simple. I know of APIs but, dont have the clearest grasp of what it actually is. So, forcing someone to enter API keys is not the best way to go about things. 3. If you want to use it with your browser thats another download.

Of the 300 apps I have, this is the first one that I have reviewed. This is by far, the most useful app I have, and it works GREAT! I use it with my home automation system (Vera Prowl Plug-in) and it alerts me via Push Notification when someone approaches the front door or side entrance via motion detection. Not only does it alert me, but I can assign a different alert tone depending on the alert. I hope the developer will add ring tone sounds that can be used instead of the limited tones available in the app. The alert also launches my security camera app which lets me see who is at the door before I open the door or while Im away. This is a truly a useful Push Notification app. I have 3 iPads, 1 iPod and 2 iPhone 4S phones, and it works great on all of them!

Has been working great since the day I downloaded. Needs an update for the new iOS7 though. Looks super outdated. Removing two stars until it gets the upgrade.

I dont even use this with Growl. I just use the email push notifications, and theyre great. I set up rules on my mail account to forward certain messages and I get a push notification instantly.

Would duplicate push notifications, started becoming unreliable. I recommend the app Pushover instead.

Love this app use it for my website to give me alerts on PMs. I really would like to see a updated interface. iOS 7 looking interface perhaps? 4 stars for lack of updates, but overall great app.

Wonderful app to push notify in embedded applications. As others have mentioned, I agree that more detailed time stamping of notifications would make it even better! Should be simple right? ;)

The UI is pretty plain but it works exactly as advertised.

This is a wonderful piece of software, but update it for iOS 7, please.

The only problem is the limitation of sounds. Please give us the ability to use iOS notification. Otherwise, it a 5 star app.

This application doesn’t have a lot of frills but it gets the job done. It is combined with a cloud-based API which allows you to send notifications to your phone from any of your systems. I used it (for example) to monitor my garage door and other home projects. I also get notifications that tell me when my servers restart, etc.. It’s a bit expensive from an app perspective but that is because the API service (currently at no additional cost) comes with the application.

This review is not for the app/service (which I love) but because after the latest update it now crashes/force quits immediately after launching in the iPhone 6+ running 8.1; please fix

This app is highly dated, it doesnt bring anything new to the push alert scene. Its seems the devs simply want to use the matte penetration of growl to further line their pockets. Things need to be modernized in the app.

Used it for the past year and very happy with the iPhone 6 update. Great notifications from anywhere. Easy to set up.

I picked up Prowl when it was first released and was quite ecstatic about the ability to get notifications from my Mac on my iPhone. It was extremely handy for notifying me when that large download was complete or when the video file I wanted to play on my iPhone and as finished converting. Since then, Apple has added notification support to the Mac, negating the need for Growl for a lot of users. But it still remains the most adaptive method for getting notifications on a great deal of tasks and applications. There was a fear at the back of my mind, though, that one day Prowl would simply vanish and stop working. Growl itself has found a niche and is still enticing developers to support it, but Prowl hadnt been updated in some time, especially visually. Imagine my surprise when, the day after I had just reconfigured Growl and Prowl on a new machine, I saw an update for Prowl that brought it visually inline with iOS 7 & 8! It wasnt dying after all! In fact, its better than ever, and just as useful. I cant recommend this app enough, and hope that its still around for years more to come.

The app would look so much better with its yellow background replaced with white.
