Prowl: Easy Push Notifications App Reviews

From the moment I heard about this application I knew I was going to have to get it. For those using Growl (and if you arent you really should be) this application is just great! It uses push notifications in a useful and innovative manner, and the developer is extremely responsive to feature suggestions and ideas. Its got me hooked and Im excited to see where it develops from here.

Well worth the $3, however I think I found an issue. I think once your computers screensaver gets turned on, growl notifs stop going through, or at least dont get published to the prowl server. So I seem to only get the push notifications until my comps screensaver activates...

Its worth it just for email notification alone. My Gmail is now basicaly a push email service. Ive turned my fetch settings to manual now so Ill also save battery power. And it gives you a message preview so you dont have to close an app just to find out you got an unimportant email. Im using Growl for Windows and Prowl and have had no issues. Just buy it already.

Great app that really adds to the already-amazing Growl. All my important notifications on my MacBook Pro now forward to my iPhone when Im away. Great stuff.

Using the API, this is a way to push generic messages to your iPhone. Its just a POST over https, you can take growl completely out the equation. Im using it to monitor servers with nagios, server breaks- message is pushed to my phone, yay.

Works as advertised and price is reasonable. Like that the control panel gives a night mode.

Beyond amazing, interfaces with my Arduino & Ethernet Shield without any trouble at all. Im going to build a 64 button trigger using a SpikenzieLabs 64 Button Shield, and really push this software to the limit. About 4 second delay between a button trigger, and receipt on my iPhone. Keep up the great development. I would have paid a great deal more for this!!

I dont even use growl and STILL this app is amazing. API gives me ability to sand pushes to phone for anything I want! (currently using to notify of torrent completions on one computer, and to notify of SQLServer SSIS completions only server. Love it!) Must have app, fills so many different niche uses.

I love you Prowl. You bring so much notification joy to my phone while Im on the go. Also, the dashboard app and Safari extension make my iPad a very happy camper. Prrreeeeeeeeeooooooooooow!

Lets me know when things are done, so I dont have to be in front of my Mac waiting.

Only gripe is the lack of support for messages with priorities. Need a visual distinction between the priority levels.

For a paid app, I expected better. Unlike most iOS apps, which look polished, this looks like a cheap Blackberry app from 5 years ago. The websites instructions for how to set up Prowl on your computer were different than what the actual program expected. For example, the instructions said to enter your username and password, but the program wanted an API. I kept getting errors when I entered my API from the website. After reading in the FAQ that you need to open the app once per week or Apple might restrict further notices, I lost interest in contacting the developer for help. I regret buying this app.

It really works perfectly but desperately need an interface update. When comparing to other apps like PushOver, it really looks old and not up to date visually.

It seems the developers of this app have given up supporting it. Last update was from almost two years ago. Interface is horribly dated looking.

No complaints here. Documnentation can be improved [no doubt will come]. Would like to see multiple APIs by way of multiple iOS instances of Prowl or all fed into the one running [could be I didnt read the RTFM].

These guys are very poor at supporting this app. Without support this app is a complete waste of money!Don’t buy!!!!!!

I like to keep in the know of what is going on on my network at home. This application helps me to be kept alerted to what is happening while Im away from home. Well done!
